Review: Film review - Eragon (2006) - This film tries to be a serious fantasy film rather than fit into the 'Disney' standard but unfortunately it fails and ends up caught between the two, neither serious nor kids stuff. Despite this it's not the worst film in the world and there are some reasonable special effects.

A young man happens upon a dragon egg and not knowing what it really is keeps it until it eventually hatches. He then becomes 'connected' to the dragon and eventually they become one, able to communicate without speech. Much adventure then ensues as the boy follows his destiny to become a 'dragon rider'.

Lots of hocus pocus, dragons and sword fighting. No real memorable performances to be honest. The link between the dragon and the boy is a nice idea (the dragon dies if the boy dies). I didn't give this 5/10 because the special effects are a little better than average for this kind of film. If you're not into fantasy then you can probably safely pass this one by.
