Review: Film review - The Sum of All Fears (2002) - One of the better translations of a Tom Clancy book into film this production is well put together. Ben Affleck leads as the lowly CIA analyst drawn into a major plot by Nazi sympathisers to explode a nuclear bomb, ably supported by Morgan Freeman who plays his boss.
The film opens with the discovery of a long lost nuclear bomb. This came from an Isreali aircraft which was shot down in the desert in 1973. The bomb falls into the wrong hands and the film follows the race between the bad guys led by Alan Bates and the good guys led by Ben Affleck to first of all get control of the bomb and second to detonate it.
There is a reasonable blend of action and plot here and the pace is well set so that the film holds your attention. No really outstanding performances as such but everyone plays their part. Entertaining stuff, worth a watch.
