Review: Film review – Collateral (2004) – There's a beautifully smooth opening to this that reflects the jazz sentiments throughout the film. Cool. Mainly a two hander, Tom Cruise plays the contract killer causing havoc in LA and Jamie Foxx plays the unlucky cab driver forced to drive him around.
Cruise arrives in LA and through a subtle exchange at the airport receives his instructions for the night. He gets into Foxx's cab and tells him he has 5 stops to make and hires him for the night. At their first stop while Foxx is waiting in the alley beside the building a body falls on to his cab. It quickly becomes apparent that Cruise has killed the man and the fun starts. Foxx is forced by Cruise to drive around LA as he works his way through the list of people he is to assassinate.
Stylish, intelligent and beautifully shot this film stands out from the crowd. Jamie Foxx steals the show and plays his part extremely well. Cruise is a little wooden but not seriously so. Well worth a watch.
